Hand tended & Locally grown

At Hell or High Water Farm our work is grounded in a deep respect for our natural world and all the creatures in it. We believe it is our responsibility as farmers to foster sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices as stewards of the land and our community.

We grow vegetables and flowers using certified organic and non-GMO seeds. We are proud to source many of our seeds from Pacific Northwest seed companies such as Uprising Seeds and Adaptive Seeds. Varieties that cannot be sourced locally are purchased through Johnny's Selected Seeds in Maine or High Mowing Seeds in Vermont. We limit our use of single use plastics and opt for packaging that may be reused, composted or recycled when possible.

We utilize organic practices which regenerate soils and improve mycorrhizal growth below the surface. We utilize chicken manure and locally sourced organic soil amendments to ensure soil fertility. We strongly oppose the use of petroleum based fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. We attract beneficial insects such as ladybugs, preying mantis, and lacewings with plantings of flowers and herbs.

We use only ethical animal husbandry practices. We believe firmly that all creatures have a right to sun, fresh grass, and the freedom to engage in behaviors innate to their species. We oppose the use of confinement systems for poultry and other domesticated farm animals. Our poultry flocks live on pasture in mobile chicken coops, protected from predators by our Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs year round. We use no antibiotics and keep our flocks healthy through preventative, organic methods. Our chickens forage in organically managed pastures and consume a mix of grasses and legumes. We supplement our chicken's nutrition with non-GMO, raw whole grains, grown and milled in Washington state.

While we utilize organic practices, our farm products are not certified organic at this time.
The only truly dependable production technologies are those that are sustainable over the long term. By that very definition, they must avoid erosion, pollution, environmental degradation, and resource waste. Any rational food-production system will emphasize the well-being of the soil-air-water biosphere, the creatures which inhabit it, and the human beings who depend upon it." ―Eliot Coleman
